The best questions to ask in a PT consultation

There are a number of questions you might want to know about your potential personal trainer. I have been to many consultations and some off these questions aren’t asked. So, I try and answer them for the potential client by telling them about myself. However, I want to know more about them so I have to be quick. This makes them feel comfortable with me as a trainer. In other words, making sure they know I am a competent trainer.

How long have you been a personal trainer?

This question will tell you how long the trainer has been in the industry and if they have experience. You want an experienced trainer to coach you. Experienced trainers have seen a lot and dealt with lots of different clients. They will know how to talk to you because they have seen it before. Trainer like to work out how to coach you in a certain way because you may have a different way of learning. They will also call you out when you are trying to get out of training.

What is your background in fitness?

Every trainer/coach have a different background in the fitness industry. They might be an instructor who does classes and 1 to 1 training. Which means, they might be a motivational cheerleading trainer. Or they are a 1-1 coach who works with individuals only. These coached don’t find it awkward when things are silent and will listen to you and give you advise on how to get through your struggles. This is a really great question because it will tell you more about what trainer you are looking for.

How many workouts do I need to do per week?

This question you really need to ask. I have had people come to me in the past asking for one training session a week expecting miracles. Then again, you don’t want to go straight into doing 3-4 sessions a week if you haven’t trained before. Even though you really want the results. A reputable trainer will tell you straight. You need to get used to training slowly. Start with 1-2 sessions a week and then build it up to 2-3 sessions. After that, you will have a good understanding of what you need to be doing and you can take the contact sessions down again. To 1-2 sessions a week to maintain your healthy lifestyle.

What are the best exercises for weight loss?

This question depends on the individual and can be different for everyone. You might react amazingly to HIIT training or you might react great to strength training. Although, both will be in your regime. It will be a trainer’s job to see which one you are reacting best too. This is hard over a small period of time but over a long programme can be shown with the result you get.

How frequently should I see you?

This depends on your financial situation as well as your ability to workout by yourself. For example, if you have been training for a while by yourself and are motivated to train by yourself. You are just looking for a personal trainer in Windsor to help you introduce new structure and exercises to your routine. then you just have to see them once a week. However, if you are new to exercise it will be good to see them twice a week at the start. Build it up to 3 days a week when you feel you’re able to and then bring it down to 1-2 sessions a week. Then again, you might feel you want the support more and you want to see your trainer 3-4 times a week. Which is also perfectly fine.

After how long will I see results?

Realistically, results show after a lot of hard work and dedication. If you start with 2 sessions a week with your PT and do 1 by yourself, as well as eating the correct food. It can take up to 100 days for you to see drastic results. Especially with weight loss. However, everyone is different. You might be a skinny person wanting to put on some weight and improve your fitness. You will see results quickly if you work hard and put in the dedication. At the end of the day, if you put in the work you will see the results.

How quickly will I lose fat?

Asking this question will reassure you that it will take time to lose fat. Don’t expects to see results straight away. This is a lifestyle and it will take time for you to loose fat. It all depends on what stage in life you are and what you are eating. If you eat healthy food you will see if come down quicker. If you have habits you need to work through. This will also take time; the good thing is your trainer will help you through it.
