Banana and strawberry protein shake

Having a protein shake after or before a training session can help you with recovery and performance. The extra cals and the extra protein help the body to push itself that little bit further. Nutrition is where all the hard work lies when you are trying to gain weight, lose weight or increase athletic performance. If you don’t fuel your body in the right way then you wont see the results you are looking for.

Your body is like a car. If you put fuel in it it will do exactly what you need it to. If you don’t then it wont perform. However, it also comes down to what you put in your body that gives you the upper edge. Your diet has to consist of protein, carbs and fruit and vegetables. Making sure you cover all the micro and macro nutrients. The more variety in your food the more likely you are to reach the goals you want.

How to balance your meals

You balance your meals the same as with a protein shake. Making sure you have a number of different ingredients. Have you ever had a protein shake with just a powder and water? It doesn’t taste great and only gives you your protein. Whereas is you add strawberries, a banana, nuts etc you will gain a lot more and it will fill you up a lot more.

The same goes for your meals, make sure you have at least 2-3 vegetables, a protein source and a slow release carbohydrate. This will make sure your body gets all the macro and micro nutrients it needs to perform.

Last note

Many trainers have a protein shake all the time whilst training. It is a very easy way to get more nutrients into your body. However, you should concentrate on making sure your main diet is correct before adding too many protein shakes into your plan. As a personal trainer in Windsor, I like to make sure all my clients are eating the correct food before advising on any supplements.
