Key support networks when improving your fitness

When you have just started to workout and take ownership over your health and fitness. You’ll need a key support network. Sometimes we think we can do everything by ourselves and this can work. However, the more support and guidance that you get the better you’ll reach your fitness goals. Don’t take for granted the people you have around you. Family, friends, a personal trainer and online support groups can all help you improve faster.

Although the people I’ve just mentioned can be supporting in your journey, they can also be an anchor in your development. Therefore, making sure they are onboard and know about what you want to achieve is the best way to increase your support in your goals.

Family support

Family support networks can be easy to come by and it also hard to come by. You need to sit your close family down and explain to them your goals and how you are going to change a couple things for yourself. This will also improve their own lives. Aspects of discussion can be:

  • healthy food changes
  • less unhealthy foods kept in the house
  • regular exercise and activity
  • family meal time
  • meals out and takeaways
  • water intake
  • less sugary drinks

When you have your family on board it is much easier for you to achieve your goals because you have a support network around you. Everyone will keep the house accountable which keeps you more accountable. Once you have discussed these aspects with your loved ones you will feel more comfortable reinforcing your goals without feeling bad. Taking ownership of what you have to do and improving everyones life in the process.

Friends

Friends are a key support network in your life and you don’t want to get rid of them. You want them to understand your goals and what journey you are on. So instead of not talking about it you must talk openly about it with them. They will then get the chance to understand and might want to do it with you. The worst thing will be when you go out for dinner and you haven’t told them. They will ask you questions like “why aren’t you drinking” or “why aren’t you having the chocolate dessert you love”. All of these awkward questions will be understood and not judged in a way that won’t make you feel good.

Personal trainer

Having personal trainer in your support network is a must. Your trainer or coach will have the knowledge and the experience to get you started and to get you through the tough times. The tough times are hard and you need someone in your corner telling you to trust the process. You will feel like quitting and you will feel like it’s not working. However, your personal trainer will reassure you and let you know that you are doing everything correctly. Your body has a different time horizon compared to your brain. This can be frustrating at time. Having a personal trainer to calm you and get you through the precess is key to your success.

Online support networks

An online support network can be in a number of areas. This can be a community of ground that you are a part of online. Which can help you stay consistent with other people being in the same boat as you. Or it can also be positive influencers that you follow videos and post of to guide you forward. There are many positive areas of the internet that you can use to motivate you mentally and help you progress. I suggest you have a couple that you admire.
